Pack: Nostos
Rank: Gamma
Gender: Female
Age: 3 years [born in summer]
Description:
Cadence is quite average for a timber wolf, both in build and appearance, with the exception of one detail: her eyes. The typical golden-yellow hue of her species, Cadence's orbs are more golden than any most wolves have seen before, and almost seem to be lit from within by a spark of pure energy from the female's very soul. Most find them incredibly disarming, even to the point of avoiding the femme and her gaze. Others see them simply as her eyes, and find them full of warmth and character, nothing to be frightened of - though certainly something difficult not to stare at.
Her coloring, while also the norm for her breed, allows her to easily blend in with many of the surroundings in the Nostos territory. When Cadence doesn't wish to be found, it would take a keen-sensed pursuer to find this female when she hunkers down and uses her primarily earth-toned pelt to her advantage. Underlined in pure white, Cadence's fur is a mixture of caramel browns, steely grays, flecks of black, and deep amber hues that work together to do the job of a wolf's pelt: camouflage her. There are a couple of places, mostly hidden by fur, where the she-wolf has a small collection of scars from stumbles or bites, nothing major. The only truly noticeable one is a silvery-white scar on the side of her thin maw.
Standing at just a hair under two and a half feet tall at her shoulders, Cadence is a little large for a female, but slightly below the average height for most grown adult males her age. She is, however, unusually light for her size, weighing in around 38 pounds. Her size is useful to her when hunting, but not such a good attribute when trying to squeeze herself into tight places. She is lithe and flexible, but even this femme can't quite stick herself in any little crevasse and crack around the forest. Instead, she has a selection of places just barely big enough for her to curl up in that she often uses as places to hide or rest.
Her long legs lead down to paws that seem too big to be on her body. Her hope is that, while she is still rather large height-wise, she isn't done filling out and will continue to gain muscle mass and grow into her paws. As it is, they're big enough that, if she doesn't pay close attention, Cadence can stumble over her own paws and get herself wrapped up in her own limbs. Or underbrush.
Personality:
There are two very different sides to Cadence, and it would do for those around her to learn them quite well, so they know when their company is welcome, and when they should tread carefully around this female.
First is Cadence's most common face - a happy, bubbly, joyful creature who has her own views on everything, most of which are wild and strange. She is full of energy and with a heart of pure gold to match her bright eyes. When in this mood, the female is a joy to be around for those pack mates who don't mind her strange ideals and goofy outbursts that many label as "pup-like." In fact, the femmora gets along quite well with the youngsters of the Nostos pack, and often volunteers to watch them if no one else is available, or if some are having a particularly hard time listening to their mommas.
The other side of Cadence, however, is one that you rarely want to see, and never want to be on the receiving end of. Almost as if she has two personalities, Cadence is able to snap into the mindset that is polar opposite of her usual demeanor at the drop of a leaf. This Cadence is harsh, sometimes even borderline cold. At these times, the she-wolf will snarl at any who dare to venture too near her, or have the gall to say something annoying or out of place. This is often the mindset the normally gentle wolf will place herself in when danger is about, especially during any conflicts or fights that are on a larger scale.
Her anger bordering on bloodlust, Cadence will ruthlessly tear apart any who push her past the point of simply growling and snipping. She has a sharp mind and a sharper tongue, and rarely misses anything that goes on in the pack - meaning if she knows something about you that maybe she shouldn't, this is the time you'll find out about it. Her first move will be to verbally attack you and catch you with your guard down, and then she'll lunge, stopping only when her anger is expended or someone manages to pin her down long enough for her to calm herself. This makes her both an irreplaceable asset in battle, and also an unstable enigma that keeps some on their toes at all times.
Thankfully, though, Cadence is rarely put in that mindset and her anger rarely shows through. In fact, on a good day, she has the patience of a saint, able to deal with more annoying pests than most wolves would understand. She is, however, always biting her tongue to keep sarcastic, sharp remarks to herself in order to avoid trouble. Not that she is mean; not at all. She just has a problem keeping her attitude in check, which she sees as only her view on things, but others have seen as rude, or obnoxious, or even mean at times, when it wasn't her intention. So to avoid potentially insulting anyone, Cadence tries to keep her controversial comments to herself when possible, and often finds herself at the receiving ends of disapproving glares when she does let a sarcastic comment slip out.
History:
Cadence's history is, in truth, rather dull. She feels like she was meant to have some great adventures and wonderful tales to tell about her life when she reaches a ripe old age, but she feels like at the moment, she's too young to have had any time to start those adventures, or begin those tales.
Born in a small litter to two wolves of the land her pack calls home, Cadence was the only female of three pups. As fate would have it, she was also, of course, the youngest. Idolizing her older brothers, the young she-wolf would follow them around constantly, getting into multitudes of trouble with her brothers for the sake of curiosity and a lack of self-control. It wasn't until the pups were nearing their fourth month and found themselves trapped in a badger den that it finally dawned on them, hello, they need to be more careful about things. The pups managed to get rescued by an elder of the pack, but not completely unscathed. Her eldest brother had to be treated for a bite on a foreleg, and Cadence herself had been scratched by the beast, and now carries the claw mark of the badger on the side of her maw in the form of a small silvery scar.
At six months old, Cadence started growing apart from her brothers, who continued on with their reckless ways. She was tired of always being yelled at, though. Tired of always being disciplined for following her elder siblings into their hair-brained schemes. She began to stay closer to the adults, learning more about how to hunt, how to protect the pack, how to survive, all the things that she would need to be a member of the Nostos pack.
Shortly after turning nine months old, her middle brother was struck by an illness known as green cough, and it took a large toll on his health. The young wolf battled the illness for weeks, but in the end, it claimed his life. Cadence, while heartbroken over the loss of her older brother, was able to find peace at his passing; she had hardly left his side at the time of his illness, thinking at that time in her life she may like to be a Healer. Her brother was able to say his farewells to his siblings and parents, and other members of the pack that were close to him. It was a hard loss, but the pack was able to heal quickly; he would be remembered, but life had to go on.
At the horror of witnessing death, Cadence decided she wanted to simply be a Gamma, hunting and fighting to provide for and protect the pack. Healing wasn't her thing; besides, she wasn't really able to remember what herbs did what, and how to do this or that with them. No, providing for the pack was what she felt she did best.
Now, she is setting her mind on the task of finding a mate and having a family; that, she feels, is the first big adventure of her life that she will be able to tell when she's old and withered, lying around with nothing better to do but tell tales of the 'good-ol days' and teach pups lessons they'll need for their futures.
Other:
If anyone is interested, I think it would be fun to have someone take up the role of her oldest brother, and maybe even her parents?(:
