A chilled breeze blew from the east, bringing with it a noisy flutter of colorful leaves dancing in spirals through the air. The scent of moist dirt and decaying plants filled the nose of the she-wolf padding her way below the multicolored canopy overhead. Her thick fur responded to the air current, moving and swaying with the breath of the earth. She was thankful for her thick undercoat; if the chill outside were able to reach her bones, Cadence knew she would scarcely have enough rays of sunlight underneath all those boughs and branches to bring the warmth back to her muscular body. She imagined having to lie in the sun to warm herself like a lizard, and chuckled at the thought. How silly; a wolf, needing to sun themselves like a lizard.
Golden eyes cast up, she took in the colors as she walked on, a pleasant smile on her snout, her tongue lazily lolling out one side of her mouth. Her sharp white canines gleamed almost red in the autumnal light cast from all sides around her. Fall was probably the femmora's favorite season; all the colors in the trees, all the earthy scents, the lack of murderous heat that hadn't quite hit the mark of deadly cold; it was simply the perfect middle ground, as far as she was concerned.
At last placing her dark nose to the ground, Cadence began to sniff out the trail of something to snack on. She wasn't quite hungry yet, per ce, but felt that hunger would start gnawing at her innards in just a few moments. She might as well get the jump on it now and find herself some prey. Squirrels scampered through the fallen leaves, the loud crunching sound making her pointed ears swivel this way and that, pinpointing the location of each. She wasn't entirely sure she felt like squirrel today, but, if she found nothing else, it wasn't exactly like the little critters would be hard to find out here.
No, what she was hoping to find was something a little larger. A groundhog maybe, or perhaps a mole, maybe even a badger if she could manage to catch one unawares. Her sharp claws were up to the task of digging up an earthen burrow, and her dagger-like teeth had no qualms about tearing into a meal with some dirt on it. Yes, perhaps a mole or a badger would be best. Just thinking about the succulent snacks made the she-wolf's stomach growl, even though she still wasn't that hungry.
Her pace quickened, snout still low to the ground in an attempt to ferret out something to gnaw on for a while. All of her sharp wolf senses were aimed on the task at hand, taking in every prey-like sound, every rodent scent, eyes searching every hole in the dirt for signs of recent activity. So focused was she on her search, she didn't notice the footsteps of another approaching until they were clearly within her sight. With a start, Cadence looked up, orbs locking onto the newcomer.

A large wolf appeared out of the shadows of a tree. His body was very toned and muscular. His eyes, the deepest blue imaginable. A speck of white fur covered his chest. A his right ear was torn slightly at the tip. He was Kapu, Alpha Male of Nostros. A large rabbit hung from his jaws. He had been watching the female as she searched for food. The journey to search for any deer or elk would have taken too long, for they herded in the fields near the edge of Emerald Forest. A far journey that would have taken the female at least a week from the pack and a wolf on their own was often a dead wolf, so, obviously, Cadence was taking the time to look for smaller prey.
"Hungry?" Kapu asked the female as he bent down and set the dead rabbit in front of her. He had been out hunting earlier and was heading back to camp when he'd run into the female. Though he was hungry, he figured he'd catch a squirrel later, or when he found the time.

The wolf that strode through this part of the woods wasn't particularly large, but he was indeed strong. Muscles bulged and rippled as he walked, but that wasn't expected to be seen on this one in particular. No, there were other things about him that would most likely be noticed first. If it wasn't the bones sticking out of his pelt, it was the tiger stripes or the bright gold his irises that flashed dazzlingly like gold that he wished to adorn his own pelt with. It was an odd site, to see this male walking through the mists of the forests and padding along on the cold ground. He looked out of place, and he looked lost. But that was part of his charm. It was the charm of mystery and he liked it that way.
The birds twittered overhead in a sing song wake up call. Amun Hasani looked up at the dances and tunes commencing above his head, where he saw the fall colors twirling about and intertwining with the rest of the dull browns and tans and oranges. He looked at his own legs as he strode on wards, noting that he was indeed, for once, blending into the background. Even his dark stripes that splayed out across his muscular body frame hid him well. And the bone spines that stood erect from each vertebrae were of a soft neutral marrowy color, so suppose it didn't much matter about those anyways.
He had just turned the corner when the scent hit his nose, and the slight twinge of blood and game mixed in with it. It was the smell of another wolf, a female, and one perhaps of his pack but also with the off chance she wasn't. Amun stopped, his dark ringed golden eyes looking straight at her, and soon, she looked right up to match his gaze. It locked for a solid second before he said anything. There was also another black male in her presence, which he noted was just off to her right, touching her prey. He made a small nod to the alpha, keeping his gaze steady on the female.
"And you are?"

Startled, the earth-toned femme stood up straighter, the hairs on the back of her neck standing on edge for a moment, before the scent of the one standing before her registered in her mind. She relaxed, her muscles losing their tension in a totally visible way. Putting on her usual smile, Cadence watched her alpha set down the kill he had in his mouth in front of her. It was a rabbit, on the plump side, freshly killed, and smelling delicious. Her mouth watered at the scent of the new kill, and her stomach gave a slight rumble - maybe she was starting to get really hungry now. Or maybe it was just the sight of the food; who knew?
Before she could say anything to express her thanks, another scent entered her nose and she turned, seeing another wolf come out of the trees. He was familiar to Cadence, but only just. She couldn't remember ever having interacted with him, but had spied him around a couple times, and his scent was familiar to her. It was funny, to the she-wolf, that he didn't know her. For some reason, Cadence had had it in her head that most, if not all, of the pack knew her, to some degree. After all, her strange antics were great gossip topics sometimes. Or that could have just been her being paranoid about it; but she was pretty certain. Generally, when you walk upon a talking group and they suddenly hush up when you approach, it means you were their topic of discussion.
"Well, I'm Cadence of course." She stated it as though she were explaining that the sky were blue, though she kept her smile on her face and the friendly gleam in her eyes. She loved company, and loved conversation, and more than anything, loved the smell of the rabbit at her feet.
Returning her attention back to the alpha, Cadence nudged the rabbit with a paw, her tongue lolling happily. "Thank you for the rabbit, I appreciate it. But you're welcome to keep it if you'd like; I would hate to feel as though I were benefiting from the hunt of another. Or you're welcome to share it with me, too, if you want."
The femmora would be more than happy to devour the whole thing, seeing as it were a small meal regardless of the meat on its bones, and would certainly do the trick of tying her over until she needed to feast on a larger meal. But to have someone else do the work for her seemed sort of...freeloader-ish to the wolf, and she wanted to be sure Kapu would have no reserves giving her the rabbit. After all, if he thought he was doing it because she was hungry and he should, Cadence would have to correct that thought. She was more than capable of finding her own meat to gnaw on if he wanted his back.

Kapu found it amusing how his pack hardly knew each other. He had to admit, his pack only came together when the time called for it. Border skirmishes and big hunts. He gave Amun a short tail flick to signify Cadence was a friend.
"It's obvious that our pack isn't well informed to each other. I will talk to Ansila about gathering the pack for a hunt. It is sure to be a great way for us to get together and get to know each other. It also won't hurt to head to the eastern part of Emerald Forest earlier. It's the mating season for the elks, and they constantly fight for mates. The loser could easily be our next great meal," Kapu said. Usually, the elk, deer, and bison all moved toward the west of Emerald Forest in the winter. In the summer, they moved back to the richer areas in the east portion of Emerald Forest.
Looking back at Cadence, Kapu realized he might have been hurting her pride by offering her the rabbit. However, he could tell the female wanted it to herself, so he wouldn't deny it from her.
"No. Thank you, but I can manage to catch a squirrel or two. They are always busy in the Autumn. They need to collect nuts for when winter comes," Kapu said casually. With a quick nod to Amun and Cadence, Kapu turned away and began scenting the air for Ansila's scent.
