"Vanessa!"
His gaze softened only slightly as she turned to look at him. Her ringlets bounced on the back of her coat, the little brown curls swishing about her rounded jawline and her slender neck. A smile broke out on his face, twisting upwards at what he had always thought was an awkward angle. Her eyes caught his, their bright green gaze always sweet, never hostile, not even when she was mad.
"Nick, I've been looking for you!" She exclaimed as she reached up on her tippy-toes to wrap her arms around his neck. At four-foot-eleven, she stretched to reach his six foot frame. The snow fell in soft, quiet little sprinkles around them. As she let go, she fell into step beside him. He bent his neck slightly to look down at her with his shy, awkward smile before looking quickly at the ground. She intimidated him, she scared him, but most of all, she fascinated him. He dared himself to take her hand, and soon he felt his fingers interlocking with hers, and she, thankfully, pressed herself up against his side playfully.
The street was paved in white. As Nick and Vanessa walked down the quiet pavement, the snow crunched under each of their boots but it was the loudest thing out there. Nick swung his arm a bit, holding the small little palm of the pretty brunette next to him, looking up at the trees in wonder, their dark arms and fingers stretching out to catch the lightly falling snow.
"Isn't it beautiful?" Vanessa said, her voice carrying up like smoke into the wind.
Nick nodded, knowing not which she meant; them, or the world. With her, everything was beautiful.
